What stays on your device
Your test results and history, your best scores and streak, how accurately you type each letter (used to find your weak keys), your onboarding answers, your settings and the language you choose are saved on your device. If you don’t create an account, they are not sent to me. The text you type in a test is checked on your device and is not sent anywhere, except the progress shared during a multiplayer race (see below). The voice coach uses your device’s built-in speech voices, offline.
Your account (optional)
If you create an account, it is handled by Firebase Authentication with your email address and a password. Your profile — the name you enter, your email address, your best speed and accuracy, number of tests, streak, points, recent test history, your typing settings and whether you have Pro — is stored in Firebase Realtime Database so it is backed up and available on your other devices. You can delete your account at any time in the app under Profile; this removes your profile and your login.
Multiplayer races
If you start a multiplayer race, the app shares an identifier for you, your name (or “Anonymous”), your best speed and your live progress, speed and accuracy during the race with your opponent through Firebase Realtime Database. Race data is used only to run the race.
Game Center leaderboards
If you are signed in to Game Center, your best speed (with its accuracy) is submitted to the TypeMania leaderboards, where other players can see it next to your Game Center name. This is handled by Apple under Apple’s privacy policy. You can sign out of Game Center, or change who sees your profile, in iOS Settings ▸ Game Center.
Device registration
When the app starts, it registers a random identifier that Apple gives to apps from the same developer on your device (not the advertising identifier) in Firebase Realtime Database. It is used to count installations and to identify you in multiplayer when you aren’t signed in. It is not linked to your name or email unless you sign in.
Feedback
If you rate the app or send feedback from inside it, the app sends your rating and message together with your app language, app and iOS version, and — if you are signed in — your account identifier. I use it only to improve TypeMania.
Usage statistics and crash reports
To fix problems and improve the app, it sends anonymous usage statistics to Google Analytics for Firebase — for example which screens you open, the steps of onboarding, test results (speed, accuracy and mode), which reminder brought you back, and whether a purchase screen was shown or a purchase went through. They are tied to a random identifier Firebase creates for this installation, and Google may derive an approximate country or region from your connection. If the app crashes, Firebase Crashlytics sends a crash report with technical details about your device and the app. The app also uses Firebase Remote Config to receive settings such as which paywall design is shown or how many free tests are included. Firebase’s privacy information applies.
Ads
The free version shows ads served by Google AdMob. To show and measure ads, Google may collect information such as your IP address, device type and how you interact with ads. The app does not ask for permission to track you, so your device’s advertising identifier is not shared with Google, and the app does not track you across other companies’ apps or websites. Pro subscribers see no ads. How Google uses information from apps that use its services.
Purchases
Subscriptions are handled by Apple through the App Store; I never see your payment details. My purchase service, RevenueCat, keeps an anonymous record of your purchase history (tied to a random app user identifier) so purchases can be validated and restored on your other devices. RevenueCat’s privacy policy applies.
Notifications
If you allow notifications, practice reminders (such as your daily warm-up, a streak reminder or a weekly summary) are scheduled on your device from the information already on it. Nothing is sent to me to create them. You can turn them off under Typing Settings → Reminders, or in iOS Settings.
Sharing your results
If you share a result, the app makes an image of your result card on your device and opens the iOS share sheet with it. Nothing is sent unless you choose where to share it.
Children
The app is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Deleting your data
Delete your account in the app under Profile to remove your profile and login. Delete the app to remove everything it stored on your device. To have feedback, multiplayer or device records, anonymous statistics or purchase records deleted, email me with the approximate date you used the app, and I’ll take care of it.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it.
